I know there are free resources like Google Colab on which you can run a lot of reasonable experiments, but sometimes having a dedicated 24x7 workstation/cluster to tune hyperparameters or run long experiments with large memory requirements or even just having a persistent machine that you don't need to set up every time can make a difference.
